Massey Martial Arts Academy

Hanshi, Marvin Massey, 9th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Began his training in karate as a member of the U.S. Army. In 1984, he began studying Shorei Goju Ryu under Hanshi Herb Johnson. For over 35 years he has continued studying, training and teaching.

He is the founder of Carmel Martial arts and Massey Martial Arts.

Frank Harness Karate USA

Hanshi, Frank Harness, 9th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Kyoshi Harness has been teaching karate in the, Indiana area since 1993. He is now assisted by his two sons: Sensei Cody Harness (4th  Degree Black Belt) and Sensei Logan Harness (3rd Degree Black Belt).

Kyoshi, Matt Galvin, 8th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Began his martial arts training in the early 1980’s. His serious training started under Hanshi Mike Kincaid 9th Dan in 1989 in the style of Shorei Goju Ryu. He considers himself a traditionalist.

He has won both National and State Karate competitions with titles in Kumite, self-defense, and kata. Kyoshi Galvin is a devout Christian, family man and teaches in Lafayette Indiana, opening his dojo in 1998.

Family Karate Academy USA

Kyoshi, Ken Piper, 8th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Advisory Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Ken Piper began his martial arts training in 1987 under Hanshi Herb Johnson. After receiving his first degree black belt at the age of 17 he joined the Army Reserves and went to college and obtained an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement.

In 1993 he began working as a full-time instructor under Hanshi Herb Johnson until he opened his own school in 2006. During his 17 years as a competitor, he obtained over 350 awards for State & National competitions including the prestigious Glenn Keeney Excellence Award in 2006. Having taught over 300 students to the Black Belt level, Kyoshi Piper is dedicated to the success of his students.

His wife, Beverly, and all four of their children have earned their black belts. Today he continues to enhance his knowledge and experience under the guidance of Hanshi Phil Morgan, his current instructor, and Hanshi Mike Kincaid.

Jeanie Gensheimer Martial Arts

Kyoshi, Jeanie Gensheimer, 8th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Advisory Board Member and Chief Instructor.

In 1993, the Indiana Youth Institute Award was presented to Ms. Gensheimer for outstanding efforts to promote healthy development in youth. She holds degrees in psychology and early childhood education from Ball State University, as well as a master's degree in marital and family therapy from Butler University.

Her teaching experience includes karate, trampoline, movement education, and coaching a girl's gymnastics team. She was the director of the Fountain Square Center of Girls Incorporated. It was there that she met and began training with Master Kay Myers. Beginning in 1994 and continuing through the present, Jeanie Gensheimer, 7th degree Black Belt, has trained under 8th degree Black Belt Master Kay Myers.  

She is one of only 4 women to have achieved a master's rank and is the 3rd highest-ranking woman in the system. She is currently the only female school owner.  Sensei was voted 'Outstanding Martial Arts Student of the Year' in 1995. She has also won numerous awards for kata and took first place during the 1996 State Tournament in Self-Defense.

In 1995, Sensei Gensheimer started a mobile karate and gymnastics program, taking her skills to schools, health clubs, and daycare centers in Indianapolis. She teaches at 15 locations, with the main program centered at The Riviera Club.

Broad Ripple Martial Arts Academy

Renshi, Keith Boggs, 7th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Advisory Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Renshi Keith Boggs is the owner of Broad Ripple Martial Arts Academy, specializing in boxing, kickboxing, and karate. He began boxing in 1968 and studying karate under Hanshi Phil Morgan in 1987.

His accomplishments include 3rd place USKK heavyweight (1991), second place heavyweight in the Indiana (1991), the second palace heavyweight in the PKC (1992-1993), State champ heavyweight Kumite (1993), PKC National Champ heavyweight (1993) and fourth place heavyweight in the state (1995).

Mr. Boggs was the recipient of the Phil Morgan Outstanding Student Award in 1991, 1992, and 1993, and he was the co-trainer of the 1992-93 state middleweight kickboxing champion. Mr. Boggs was also the co-manager of former world junior welterweight champion, Randall Bailey.

Renshi, Tim Tucker, 6th Degree Black Belt, NSGR Board Member and Chief Instructor.

Began his training with Hanshi Herb Johnson in 1993, moved to Lebanon, and earned his 1st-degree Black belt under Hanshi Mike Kincaid in 1998. From the beginning of his training, Renshi Sensei Tucker has been blessed to have trained with numerous martial arts masters (Karate & Brazilian jiu-jitsu) and the top self-defense instructors (firearms & bladed weapons) from around the world.

Lifetime Member of the Professional Karate Commission, Member of the United States Karate Alliance, Member of the United States Karate-do Kai, and Member of the United States Martial Artist Association.

In addition, Tim is the CEO and Chief Instructor of Tactical Advantage "Firearms & Self-Defense Training". Concentrating on the use of force continuum training which includes self-awareness, body and verbal communication, hand-to-hand self-defense, and firearms training for individuals in a group or private setting. Offering nationally recognized courses from organizations such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA).

Sensei, Vince Hernly, 5th Degree Black Belt, NSGRA Board Member and Assistant Chief Instructor.

He started his training in 2006 under the instruction of Renshi Jeanie Gensheimer and earned his black belt in November of 2009.

He began teaching after school programs as an assistant in 2009 and as lead instructor in 2012 at several public and private schools in Indianapolis. He and his family recently started dojo classes at Broadway United Methodist Church.

His wife, Beth Hernly, and two sons, Emerson Hernly, (all third-degree black belts), and Ben (fourth degree black belt) teach with him in both the after-school programs and the dojo. He was awarded his fifth-degree black belt in November of 2019. His love of teaching and mentoring have been fueled by teaching college-level courses from 1989 to 2012, as a canoe instructor and scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America since 2009, and as a gymnastics instructor since 2010.

Sensei, Tony Hunley, 3rd Degree Black Belt and NSGRA Board Member.

Sensei Hunley is an Army chaplain (captain) stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in WA and is the Chief Instructor/Proprietor of Lion & Lamb Family Karate USA. LLFK is Christian Karate unit sponsored program for Soldiers and Families stationed at JBLM.

Sensei Hunley began studying Shorei Goju Ryu in 1990 in Indianapolis, IN during High School. Achieving the rank of 4th Kyu (purple belt), Sensei Hunley’s training was put on pause while he attended college in Naperville, IL and began a career and family. Beginning again in 2001 under Grandmaster Herb Johnson at his Fishers, IN dojo with Chief Instructor, Kyoshi Ken Piper, Sensei Hunley earned his 1st degree Black Belt in 2004. After a career transition into ministry and the Army National Guard, Sensei Hunley moved to Jamestown, IN and began training under Renshi Tim Tucker in Lebanon, IN in 2013. In 2014, Sensei Hunley tested for and was awarded his 3rd degree Black belt.

Sensei Hunley has been married ten years to his wife Beth. They are a blended family with six children - 2 his, 3 hers, and 1 “ours” - with only the "ours" (7 y.rs) still living at home. After being on active duty for two years, and feeling that itch in his bones to continue training and begin teaching martial arts, Sensei Hunley launched the dojo in January 2017 while stationed at FT Lee, VA. “I am excited to share the knowledge I have collected over the past two decades, as well as continue my own learning alongside my students. Karate has always been a way for me to be physically, spiritually, and mentally fit and I am eager for others to now have a similar experience.”

Sensei, Robert Bilek, 4th Degree Black Belt and NSGRA Board Member.

He has ten years of training in Aikido (1st Degree Blackbelt) and 7 years in Shorei Goju Ryu Karate. He started Phoenix Rising Karate in 2015 and opened a permanent location on 96th Street in March of 2018. Blade Family Martial Arts Academy is a martial arts school that works to strengthen each student's mind, body, and spirit. We work to teach Shorei Goju Ryu's art to continue the tradition and legacy to the next generation. The Karate program is headed by Courtland Blade (4th degree Black Belt). Courtland Blade began training in Shorei Goju Ryu. After some years under his first instructor, Sensei Blade began to train under Sensei Vince Hernly, where he earned his first, second, and third dan Levels. Sensei Blade is also added by his wife, Mrs. Rachel Blade (3rd Degree Black Belt).

Blade Family Martial Arts Academy also offers a cross-training option to amplify a karateka's kicks; Sensei Blade also holds a Black belt in Chung do Kwan taekwondo and is certified by US Shungdo Kwan Association, the World Shungdo Kwan Association, and the World TKD headquarters.
